The closed beta testing for The Division recently wrapped up on the Xbox One, PlayStation and PC, after being extended by one day. Beta participants were able to squeeze in a little more time playing the game, learning how to use skills, and exploring the map.
One of the complaints, or concerns, rather, some had following The Division's beta was the size of the map. Many feel it's too small. We experienced somewhere around 22% of the map, but the entirety of the map is comparable to the size of Fallout 4's map.
YouTuber MarcoStyle used his time in the beta to figure the size of The Division's map, estimating it to be around 2.8 KM (or 1.7 miles). It took him 8 minutes and 10 seconds to traverse from one side of the map to the other (without obstacles).
In comparison, Fallout 4's map is nearly the same, although the main difference between the two is how Fallout 4's map is composed. The post-apocalyptic environment in Fallout 4 doesn't lend itself to having many buildings, like The Division's map does.
According to MarcoStyle, "If you think that the map for The Division is small, then you also think that the map for Fallout 4 is small."
