"Be prepared to enter the next generation of gaming."
While the PS4 and Xbox One launched last month, I think most of us would agree that the launch lineups for each respective console have been lackluster. So while we've technically entered the "next generation" already, I don't think we've fully experienced next-gen graphics. That could soon change as Ubisoft, over the weekend, showcased its Snowdrop Engine, the next-gen engine used to power Tom Clancy's The Division.
Developed specially "to create the deep and vast universe of Tom Clancy's The Division," the Snowdrop Engine features a dynamic day and night cycle, volumetric lighting, dynamic global illumination, procedural destruction, an advanced particle system, and dynamic material shaders for weather effects. While these are words developers tend to throw around often, Ubisoft claims "never before has a video game reached this level of detail."
And after watching the Snowdrop engine in action, you'll probably agree. The game looks amazing.
