The Division’s weeping woman is officially no more thanks to the latest patch

The Division's Update 1.4 was a big deal for the game. After much had been made about the "core gameplay experience," Ubisoft decided to delay the game's most recent DLC to re-focus their efforts on getting back to the basics. Update 1.4 is the result of that work, and while the game has seen some much-needed improvements, you might notice that a particular area of the game has gotten a tad…quieter.

The Grindhouse, a movie theater that has been converted into a shelter, is home to a number of denizens affected by the biological weapons attacks, one of whom appears to have drawn the ire of quite a few players. I'm talking of course about the Weeping Woman. As reported by Kotaku, Ubisoft has confirmed that quite a few players were "annoyed" by the constant crying, so the developers elected (of their own accord) to remove the character entirely.

While this might not sound like a big deal and/or the players being harsh, it's one of those things that makes sense within the context of the game, but an overload ends up being detrimental to the desired emotional effect it is supposed to have on the player. Which is exactly the case with the Weeping Woman. It would be cool if Ubisoft could somehow tie in a little mini-narrative context to her disappearance like she wandered out into the cold winter and never returned or something.

So long, Weeping Woman. Unfortunately, it seems like not many people are going to miss you.
