The Iron Banner ‘Reforged’ returns to Destiny today until next week

Destiny's PvP-centric event, The Iron Banner, has returned. And this time, your power really does matter; at least that's what Bungie has been telling us. Since the last Iron Banner event, Bungie has spent the past few weeks listening to player feedback and making all sorts of tweaks and improvements for this new "Reforged" version.

The biggest change, of course, is a more discernible difference in level advantage. According to Bungie, your defense rating now affects how you take damage, while your attack rating affects how much damage you inflict on another Guardian. While the original Iron Banner also removed the automatic balancing in PvP, I assume it'll be more noticable this time around. That being said, Bungie warns that even lower-level Guardians wielding fully-upgraded weapons "should still be considered a very credible threat."

To account for the new level differences, Bungie is also trying to prevent higher-level players from being stuck on a team with lower levels. Now, only players level 20 and above can lead a Fireteam of six Guardians into the Iron Banner. "Guardians lower than Level 20 can accompany their more powerful friends at their peril," Bungie says. "Prove your might and earn the respect of the Lords of Iron."

Another change this time around is how Iron Banner Reputation is rewarded. Previously, you would only gain Iron Banner rep for wins. Now, if you're defeated in the Iron Banner, you will earn a token — a Medallion of Iron — that you can redeem for a portion of your lost reputation. It's not as much reputation as you would get for a win, but it's better than nothing. Additionally, Iron Banner Bounties have been changed as well.

The Iron Banner reputation that you earn will go towards increasing your Iron Banner rank. There are now five Iron Banner ranks, and although your progress from the previous Iron Banner event has carried over to this one, that won't be the case for future events. For now though, there are five ranks, with each tier offering increasingly better rewards, including gear (gauntlets and boots) that'll help you get closer to level 30.
