The Last of Us becomes fastest selling new IP in PS3 history with 3.4 million copies sold

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us has sold more than 3.4 million copies worldwide as of July 3rd, making it both the fastest-selling PS3 title of 2013 as well as the fastest selling new software title in the history of the PS3.

The Last of Us was released on June 14 to critical acclaim. It currently sits at 95/100 on Metacritic with more than 30 perfect scores. Here on GameZone, where it was described by me as "one of the best current-gen (or any gen) titles I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing," it scored a 9.5/10.

"These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us," said Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. "The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example."

If you own a PS3 and haven't yet played The Last of Us, I highly suggest you do. It has some of the richest narrative I've seen in a game, truly worthy of all the praise it has received. If you don't own a PS3, this game may be the reason to finally get one. Yes, even though the PS4 is coming out, this game is that good.
