When I first read the logline for The Last of Us movie that's currently in development, I thought it sounded awfully similar to the game's story.
"Hardened survivor Joel teams with young and capable companion Ellie to journey through a radically transformed world some 20 years after an infectious pandemic ravages humanity. The game has won numerous awards and has been a big seller since its release last summer."
Turns out, the film will actually be "an adaptation" of the game's story, according to Neil Druckmann, the game's creative direction who will also reportedly write the script for the film.
Speaking to IGN at the BAFTAs yesterday, Druckmann explained "It's an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us. As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface."
As reported by Deadline, Screen Gems will distribute the live-action film with Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra also having a role in the project. Evil Dead director Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures are also involved.
