The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar hits all the nostalgic feels in this D23 exclusive clip

Last week, Disney gave us our first look at The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, a television movie event premiering this November as part of the new, expanded canon for The Lion King. It will actually kick off Disney's new animated series, The Lion Guard, which will debut on Disney Junior in January 2016. The concept of the new show, which builds upon the classic animated film we've all grown to love, follows Simba and Nala's son, Kion, and the Lion Guard, a group of animals tasked with protecting the Pride Lands.

At last weekend's D23 Expo, fans were treated to an extended look at the animated spin-off, and now you can watch it for yourself. The three(ish)-minute clip seriously hits the nostalgic feels as it appears to have that signature Disney charm. From the opening song to the quality of the animation, everything about this new show seems to hit the right chord. It's even got Ernie Sabella and James Earl Jones returning to reprise their roles of Pumbaa and Mufasa, respectively.

This particularly clip expands upon last week's teaser, as best friends Kion (Max Charles) and Bunga (Joshua Rush) are out looking for adventure in the Pride Lands when they travel into some unsafe territory — the Outlands. The two encounter some mischievous hyenas hungry for honey badger — until Kion unleashes a power roar (with the help of some others) to save the day.

I know it's only a three-minute clip, but so far I'm loving everything about this show — from the concept to the actual presentation. As a child of the '90s who grew up during Disney's decade of animated hits, it's nice to see the return of The Lion King for a new generation to experience. And what's more, it actually looks good, not another one of those campy Disney spin-offs we've seen lately.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar will premiere on Disney Channel in November, followed by the animated series, The Lion Guard, in January 2016.
