The Lord of the Rings, Hobbit team reunite for new sci-fi/fantasy movie series

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has announced the next movie that he and his team will be bringing to the big screen. The four-part Mortal Engines book series by Philip Reeve is getting a film adaption!

The Mortal Engines movie will be directed by Christian Rivers, who worked on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. In addition to Rivers, Philippa Boyens, one of the writers behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film adaptations is working on the script, along with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.

If that wasn't enough, Weta Workshop and Weta Digital are both working on the film.

"We've had the rights to Philip's book series for several years, but have had to wait for the right time to make it," Jackson said in a post detailing the project.

"If you haven’t read the books, you should. They present a stunning look into the future, when all of Earth’s major cities are now mounted on wheels, roaming across the landscape as massive 'Traction Cities.' Our society has build itself on the principals of Municipal Darwinism – this basically involves the bigger cities hunting down, and consuming, the smaller ones. And that's only the backdrop to an original and emotional personal story."

The movie will begin filming in March 2017 in New Zealand. The cast for the film has yet to be announced.
