Fellow Super Smash Bros. fans, the day has finally come. We can now confirm that the next entry in Nintendo's famed fighting franchise is currently in development. Speaking with IGN, Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed that he had started working on a new game, and he even said he wanted to make some changes to the series.
"I intend to change direction a little as we go," he said. "The key to that's going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U."
Sakurai didn't get into detail, saying he had only barely started working on the next Smash Bros., but he did mention that he wanted to do something big with the connectivity between the Wii U and the 3DS. What that could be is a mystery at this point, but let's hope it's something that enhances the experience.
Some news is definitely better than no news, so while this announcement may not have been incredibly in-depth, it's good to know that the next Smash Bros. is officially a thing that's happening now. As someone who has sunk countless hours into the series, I can honestly say I'm looking forward to the next chapter in Smash Bros.
Oh, and by the way, Smash Bros. on a handheld? About damn time!
