The Order: 1886 trailer was all in-game footage

"One man's journey to find out who he really is." That's what Ready at Dawn's new, PlayStation 4-exclusive The Order: 1886 is about. Unveiled at this year's E3, many gamers have been curious about this IP since its first trailer. Now, GameInformer was able to speak with creative director Ru Weerasuriya and chief technology officer Andrea Pessino about the title.

An action-adventure game, players play as Galahad and experience his journey. Pessino said, "The story to me is really wonderful; it's super exciting. I think people are going to be surprised by just how engaging this game is going to be in terms of investing in characters […] I'm not saying the story makes or breaks the game, but if it's good it really helps immerse the players."

The Order: 1886 is a story-driven, single-player, third-person action game, so the player needs to stay engaged. It's a well-blended ride of adventure, suspense and horror. It takes place in the year 1886 — never would have guessed that — after the Industrial Revolution.

Weerasuriva explained, "Humanity has been fighting this war that's been going on for more than a millennium against half-breeds, and that's where the round table comes into play […] they want to find a way to stop this war." There's going to be a lot of back-story in this alternate history game because a lot needs to be explained and be made sense of. Humanity has an advantage on its side — the Industrial Revolution has given humanity a technological advantage in the war; in a way, the Industrial Revolution comes as a reaction to the war.

If you're having doubts about whether the trailer was made up of in-game footage or not, Pessino addressed that, as well.

"It was totally in-game. It was complete in-game, all-new engine, they're all game assets. That's the real stuff. In fact, it's relatively early stuff. Our goal is to exceed that visual quality in the game."
