After the monumental announcement that was the original StarCraft Remaster, Blizzard has officially made the original version of that game free to play today courtesy of a brand new update. The company previously promised the free-to-play update at the end of last month but did not reveal when they would do it. Apparently, that time is now.
The update is the first that the game has gotten in eight years, and it's worth noting that when you go to install it, Blizzard advises that you use the "Run as Admin" option in order to "migrate saves and avoid issues from Windows system admin changes."
Some other notable improvements in the patch include better compatibility with Windows 7, 8.1, and 10, improved gameplay responsiveness during multiplayer, and an observer mode.
If you're interested in checking out the now free-to-play StarCraft, you can download the game on PC here and on Mac here.
