In September we saw the Xbox One launch in China, it's officially Sony's turn to bring the PlayStation 4 and Vita to the region. The PlayStation 4 and Vita will be hitting the China's market next year with a number of games already confirmed for the platforms and tons of developers signed up to get on the Chinese program.
The two Sony gaming platforms will release on January 11th, 2015 at CY 2,899 ($470 / £299) for the PS4 and and CY 1,299 ($210 / £134) for the Vita.
There are 70 developers and publishers ready to bring their games to China and a couple of Chinese games were already confirmed for the platforms: King of Wushu, Mr Pumpkin Adventure, and One Tap Hero. A bunch of developers that we are familiar with have put ther names on the list to be approved by the Chinese program: EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros, Disney, Bethesda, Codemasters, CD Projeckt, Focus, Halfbrick and Nordic Games.
Andrew House, the SCE president and CEO at Sony remarked on the PS4 and Vita treading into new territory:
“PS4 is expanding at the fastest rate in PlayStation hardware history, and the global gaming community is enjoying the ultimate entertainment experience only available on PlayStation…We are delighted that we are able to fully launch our business in China, which is a market with great potential. We look forward to delivering exciting software, convenient services and entertainment experiences only possible on PlayStation to the many gamers in China.”
It's interesting that House mentions his Sony's delight to launch in China, but there is one question I have. Why is the PS4 releasing with the traditional components, a 500GB hard drive and controller…while the Vita is only launching with its 1GB internal memory and no additional memory cards?
If Sony is looking for the Vita to sell well, why would they sell it with 1GB of memory?
