The Purge 3 pushed to 2016

The Purge, the horror/thriller franchise that takes place in a version of the United States where for one night only any heinous crime is legal, has a release date for its third film — The Purge 3.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions set the release date for Friday, July 1, 2016. Director James DeMonaco is returning to direct. The first film in the franchise brought in $90 million on a $3 million budget, while The Purge 2: Anarchy made over $100 million on a $9 million budget.

There's nothing known about the plot, but there are some reports and rumors that the third Purge will be a prequel of sorts — taking us back to where it all began, and the circumstances that led to The Purge getting started.
