The Resident Evil remake is being remastered for Xbox One, PS4, and last-gen systems

Capcom has announced plans to remaster Resident Evil 1 for release on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Though Resident Evil was first released in 1996 for PlayStation, this remaster is actually based on the 2002 remake of the game for Gamecube.

Capcom says it has made "enhancements" to the game's graphics and sound. The Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions will all boast 1080p visuals, while older consoles will offer 720p. You'll also be able to choose to play the game in the old 4:3 ratio, or bump it to the more modern 16:9 widescreen.

"Our aim with this remaster is to bring back the original experience of this title in HD. We have been very careful to preserve the atmosphere of the original game, and are ensuring that no unnecessary changes will be made," assured Capcom Japan producer Yoshiaki Hirabyashi. Capcom has also decided against making changes that would affect the game's tempo as it is "an inherent part of its scary atmosphere."

The new remastered Resident Evil will be released in early 2015. Surprisingly, no Wii U version was announced.
