Fireproof Games has done really well with sales of The Room and its horror-puzzler sequel, The Room 2 — so well that it's made the developer think that mobile games could use a change.
The Room 2 launched first for iPad in December last year, for iPhone and iPod Touch in January, and finally for Android last month. Fireproof said over Twitter that the sequel has sold 1.2 million copies so far. Coupled with sales of the first game, the series as a whole has sold 5.4 million copies in 14 months.
"Yet this all happened without Fireproof spending any money on marketing or PR or analysts or analytics," tweeted co-founder Barry Meade.
"We had no experience of mobile, we made it up as we went along, our game wasn't a service and we believed in gamer word of mouth," he said.
"Point? Dunno," Meade said. "But maybe what mobile games needs is less databollocks and more devs who believe in gamers and what gamers want."
2/5 Well today Fireproof received word The Room Two has sold 1.2m. Combined with The Room we're at 5.4m sales over 14 months…
