I think there's a saying, "If Hollywood can't do it, just do it yourself." Though the problem often being, Hollywood can and has done it, and also ruined it in the process. Yeah, I'm talking about things like Dragon Ball Evolution, Transformers to some degree, and any number of Uwe Boll movies. But then you get talented directors that bring you short movies like the recent dark Power/Rangers short film, or the amazing Dragon Ball Z Light of Hope. These short films prove that Hollywood isn't always what's best for these properties.
The next fan film created by the folks over at PlayerPiano focuses on The Legend of Zelda. And while there is a rumor that Netflix is producing a live Legend of Zelda show, I still can't help but marvel at the production value put into just this little teaser, which will be followed up with a full on fight between Link and Ganon.
The trailer itself isn't very long, just focusing on Link riding Epona toward Death Mountain it seems like, until we see him get off the horse, and ready to make the trek by foot. At this point, we get a glimpse at Navi, who flies out and says the line, "Hey, are you ready to go?" Oh boy, everything looked amazing until this one shot brought it down a notch. Had Navi just said "Hey!" in her original sampled voice, I might have been OK with that, but this legitimately sounded like someone inhaled a helium balloon and just read that line. So cringeworthy.
Despite that though, I'm still stoked to see the final product, and I'm sure (hoping) that Navi won't be a prominent character in it. In any case, check it out for yourselves:
