Back in 2014 we caught wind of something puzzling: Threshold Entertainment had partnered with The Tetris Company to develop a film based on Tetris. The movie was even referred to as an 'epic sci-fi story' by producer Larry Kasanoff.
"Everyone knows that Tetris is one of the best known, most beloved brands in the world," said Kasanoff at the time. "What everyone doesn't know yet is this epic sci-‐fi story that we’re going to tell. That's what's really exciting."
Two years later and it has been revealed that the film will be developed with an $80 million budget and will be filmed in China with a chinese cast, but will the goal with Tetris is to make world movies for the world market.” According to a new statement on the Tetris movie from Kasanoff to Deadline, it's “not at all what you think; it will be a cool surprise.” In addition to that, the movie will be the first part of a trilogy.
Tetris has been around since the 80s, it's in its 30s and it has never been made into a movie. Battleship had more business being a movie than Tetris.
