The Walking Dead Episode 1 and 2 available for free on Aug. 7 with PlayStation Plus

If you've managed to resist purchasing Telltale Games' The Walking Dead up until now, then you will soon be rewarded – provided you own a PlayStation 3 and are a PlayStation Plus member.

The first two episodes of The Walking Dead will be available for free on August 7 for PlayStation Plus subscribers as part of the PS3's 'Instant Game Collection'.

Regularly priced at $4.99 per episode on PSN, these first two episodes, beginning with "A New Day", will introduce you to new character Lee Everett, a man convicted of a crime of passion, who finds himself face-to-face with a chance at redemption in a world devastated by the undead. Episode 2, "Starved for Help", will take the decisions you make in "A New Day" and throw all-new scenarios at you as the dramatic storyline unfolds.

If you haven't yet played, this is the best time to catch up on Telltale's episodic adventure which is set to continue in the "middle of August" with the release of Episode 3, titled "Long Road Ahead".

Sony also promised "significant discounts on the latest and best PSN games" as part of PSN Play event which is set to begin tomorrow, July 31.

In addition to The Walking Dead, the July 31st PlayStation Plus Update will offer a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus members on The Expendables 2 Video Game which is set to release exclusively first on PS3 before other platforms. The Expendables 2 will release for PSN on July 31 for $14.99. Playstation Plus members can get the game for $11.99, 20% off, during launch week.

Tomorrow also marks the release of the highly-anticipated PSN exclusive SoundShapes, a side-scrolling 2D game with unique musical compositions. Available for PS3 and Vita together for one price, PlayStation Plus members can also get a 20% discount on this. The original price of $14.99 will be available for PS+ members for $11.99.

"With the August 7th update, you’ll also be able to pre-order the next PSN PLAY game Papo & Yo, which will also have a 20% discount for all PlayStation Plus members," PlayStation Digital Platforms community manager Morgan Haro said.

"We’ll be coming at you with another update on August 13th, with more additions to the Instant Game Collection and additional awesome sauce," he promised.
