The War Z surpasses 100K closed beta registrations in 24 hours

Just how popular are survival-simulation, zombie games? In just 24 hours since the game was first announced, The War Z has gathered more than 100,000 registrations for its closed beta.

“The response in the first week since we announced the game has been incredible and it’s totally inspired the team,” said senior game designer for The War Z Eric Nordin. “We’ve been following all of the comments on the various forums as well as our Facebook page and it really validates that we’re creating something that gamers want to play.  We’re going to continue working hard and make sure we deliver the best game possible!”

So what is The War Z? As you may recall from its reveal announcement, The War Z is an online, multiplayer, survival-simulation game set in an open world infested with zombies (sort of like the popular Arma 2 mod, DayZ).

Developed by Hammerpoint Interactive, The War Z thrusts players into a post-apocalyptic world five-years after a viral outbreak that ravaged the human population. Now filled with hordes of undead zombies, the few remaining humans can do nothing but attempt to survive – by any means necessary. With nothing to lean back on but skill and cunning, you must acquire food, weapons, and other supplies necessary by survival. When it comes to survival, it's of the fittest in The War Z; so while you may fear the dead, it's the living you must be wary of.

The War Z is currently in Alpha phase, with a closed beta planned for the "very near future". You can visit the game's official website, which recently launched, for a chance to register to participate in the closed beta.
