The Witcher franchise sells over 4 million copies worldwide

The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings have combined to sell over 4 million copies worldwide, developer CD Projekt RED announced.

While the first installment is available for PC and Mac, The Witcher 2 can be enjoyed on PC and Xbox 360. It is set to arrive on Mac in the future.

“I’m still amazed with the result we have achieved with The Witcher franchise,” said head of CD Projekt RED studio Adam Badowski. “Many gamers on many platforms have been drawn to the vivid and complex world we have created. In the gaming world summer means a lot of great, hot deals."

"So if you still don’t own the game look out for both retail and digital special offers. 'The Witcher' and 'The Witcher 2' are great, robust RPGs, that every true gamer should own," he added.

In The Witcher games, players assume the role of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer. Players look to resolve a conspiracy that can "shake the entire Northern Kingdoms and will set upon a quest to regain the protagonist’s lost memory."

Looking toward the future, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition will become available for Japanese Xbox 360 gamers on August 23rd. CD Projekt RED recently announced that it will begin work on a new game series set in The Cyberpunk universe. Collaborating with famous game designer Mike Pondsmith, the new game will feature an "engrossing, absolutely non-linear storyline and will take players to a futuristic, hi-tech, but also decaying society".
