There’s been a problem with Destiny’s Crimson Doubles, but Bungie is making it up to us

Have you been grinding away at Destiny's special Crucible mode, Crimson Doubles, in hopes of earning that sweet, sweet Valentine's Day-themed Ghost? Has Destiny not returned the turn?

Even though Destiny is known for an incredibly horrible loot system and poor drop rates, players have took notice that the Crimson Days Ghosts are unusually hard to come by.

There's a reason for that, apparently. Bungie has admitted the drop rate for the 320 Ghosts has been too low.

"Feedback has been unmistakable: the drop rate has been pretty low. We agree. We took a look at the data, and the number of Ghosts awarded has not been what we expected," Bungie acknowledged.

The good news is, a fix is in the works. However, screw ups like this occur far too often in Destiny and it has come to be expected from Bungie, so I'm really not surprised by this. Too often bugs or unintended side effects of a change or event go unnoticed for days, or weeks even. On the bright side, Bungie typically makes it up to us somehow, and with this it's no different.

Bungie is also promising players who competed in seven Crimson Doubles matches a guaranteed 320 Light Ghost. These will be sent to the Postmaster by February 23rd. Here's the exact list:

  • After the event is over, we'll deliver Ghosts to the Postmaster
  • Anyone who has competed in seven matches will receive one
  • You had to actually compete though – no suicide pacts!
  • Your Ghost will be Chocolate or Crimson – the odds are even
  • 320 Light will be guaranteed – the odds are totally in your favor
  • Packages will be addressed by account, not character
  • Qualifying players will receive their Ghost by February 23rd

If you've already participated in seven matches, you're good. If not, you still have time to earn the guaranteed reward before Crimson Doubles goes away on February 16th.

Perhaps this low drop rate is the reason Guardians were going all Romeo and Juliet on us in the Crucible.
