Sound Shapes isn't the only music game headed to the PlayStation Vita this summer. While Queasy Games' upcoming title features a nice amalgamation of platforming and music, the XSEED-published handheld game combines strategy gameplay with rhythm elements to create a Pikmin-meets-Patapon experience.
In Orgarhythm you play as a commander god (or god commander if you prefer that title), and you must lead your troops to victory. By executing different commands on the touchscreen, you can control your followers to battle enemies and defeat major bosses. Timing commands properly helps your characters level up, while mistiming will lower your troops' level. Gameplay in Orgarhythm is fast-paced and frantic, and you need to keep to the beat if you want to succeed.
Gamers will be able to play alongside their buddies or take them on locally in co-op and versus modes, respectively. One of the coolest features in Orgarhythm is based entirely around the community: Aspiring musicians will be able to submit their music for the chance to have it released as official DLC. Not only is this a great way for up-and-coming music makers to get their tunes out there, but it provides a very interesting take on DLC.
Orgarhythm is due out for Vita this summer. In the meantime, why not get better acquainted with the game's art style by checking out these screenshots released by XSEED? The game reminds me a lot of Pikmin, but with the major emphasis on music, I think it's safe to say we can probably expect a vastly different experience.
