Tomb Raider resilient against new releases

If we've learned anything from playing Tomb Raider, it's that Lara Croft is one tough cookie. Nothing shows off Lara's resilience more than her staying power in the UK sales charts. Tomb Raider remained number one (for the week ending March 16, 2013) despite new releases from Sony — God of War: Ascension — and Blizzard — StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, the expansion to the already-released StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty.

For the second week in a row, Square Enix's Tomb Raider held the top spot in the UK sales charts, despite a 72% decrease in sales from last week. The three next best-sellers were God of War: Ascension, StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 — all new releases. Although Ghost Warrior 2 didn't crack the top 3, it has topped its predecessor which, according to GfK, has never climbed higher than number 8 in the All Formats Chart.

SimCity, which was number two last week, fell three spots to round out the top five. Despite what we assume are decent sales, SimCity's reception has been marred by server issues and an always-on DRM, which Maxis has fought to defend. Rounding out the top ten, in order, are FIFA 13, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Black Ops 2, and The Sims 3: University Life.
