Ubisoft announced today that they have acquired Freestyle Games, developer of DJ Hero and Guitar Hero Live, from Activision.
The studio will be renamed Ubisoft Leamington and work with the Newcastle-based Reflections studio. The Reflections studio is responsible for The Division, The Crew and Grow Home titles as well. Richard Blenkinsop, who currently heads up the Reflections studio, will also oversee the new Leamington studio. He noted that “we’re thrilled to have their expertise within the group, and the team at Reflections are looking forward to creating great things together!.
There is no word yet on which game titles the studio will be working on, but support for Guitar Hero Live will continue. Of course, a lot depends on the ongoing attempt by Vivendi to try and take over the independent developer as well. With just recently Ubisoft confirming more Switch games en route, the new Leamington could be involved with these.
