Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot today addressed the company’s stance on developing games for PS3 and 360, saying that “As a company, we expect to continue to support those consoles for the foreseeable future.”
Many of Ubisoft’s bigger games will be cross-gen releases, most notably Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs and the next Assassin’s Creed. It may irk early adopters, or simply gamers who want to get the absolute most out of their new system, but the logic behind cross-gen releases is solid (I’ve actually discussed it at length in the past): Big games need big markets, and until PS4 and XOne build a larger install base—which shouldn’t take long if Sony’s lofty predictions are correct—PS3 and 360 will be the place go for them.
Ubisoft has seen its fair share of limelight today, what with the surprise confirmation of Far Cry 4’s November 18 release and the company’s financial reports rolling in. Unfortunately, the delay of The Division, now releasing in 2015, was paired with them.
