The Until Dawn developer, Supermassive Games, is working on a new Until Dawn-ish game, but a sequel to the PlayStation 4 exclusive is as of now not in Supermassives pipeline.
Until Dawn was the surprise hit of 2015 and was mostly well recived. In a interview with Gamesindustry.biz the Managing Director at Supermassive Games Pete Samuels shed a bit of light on what the future holds both for the company and Until Dawn. There was one thing Samuels was clear on, a Until Dawn 2 is not on it's way. The clearness of the no Until Dawn 2 can not even be interpreted as a tease, no matter the way Samuel's words are twisted
"There's a lot of speculation about what we're doing and what we're working on right now," Samuels' said. "We're not working on Until Dawn 2 at the moment. We're working on other things."
Supermassive Games recently also said that they want to stop being a Sony exlusive developer and that they want to make their games available on more platforms than in the past. Supermassive wants to bring the kind of experience that Until Dawn was, the type of cinematic storytelling that it had, to other platforms. Samuels' also reassures readers that there is no bad blood between Supermassive and Sony, they just want to make games available for more gamers. With the success of Until Dawn, who can blame them for wanting to try to fly on their own.
"We have such a great relationship with Sony. We want to continue to work with Sony, and we are continuing to work with Sony on lots of things, there's no concern or resentment or any bad feeling. They're a really important publisher for us, and I hope and expect that they'll continue to be that. We really want to push to bring those experiences, those cinematic storytelling narrative-driven games, be it horror or not, to other platforms as well."
"It seems that the next logical step for us now is to broaden that out into similar experiences, but with differences depending on the IP, the publisher, the platform, so on. That's what we want, and that's what we're really focused on now…to take what we did with Until Dawn and push that even further."
With Supermassive developing games for all platforms we can expect a new cinematic masterpiece like Until Dawn in the future. Until then Supermassive are working on Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for PlayStation VR, and don't expect Until Dawn on Xbox or PC since Sony owns the rights to the game.
