If you’ve never heard the name ‘SEAL Team Six,’ you must be living under a rock. This is the elite squad that took out Osama bin Laden. The spotlight has been pretty bright on these brave warriors ever since the assassination. It’s not surprising that a video game would want to have elements of their heroics in it.
While Medal of Honor: Warfighter does not have a Osama bin Laden assassination mission, the game still wanted to emulate the whole SEAL experience. Members of SEAL Team Six worked as paid consultants for Medal of Honor: Warfighter. While this may not seem like a big ordeal from the outside, it gets a bit more complex.
You see, these SEAL members shared classified material which had been given to them by the NAVY. That’s a HUGE no no. On top of that, there is this whole unwritten code that SEALs are silent warriors and avoid the spotlight. Due to these facts, the members who worked as consultants are under investigation.
This is a pretty big offense. Sure I want my realistic war games to be as realistic as possible… but classified information is classified for a reason. I worst thing I can do in this field is break a NDA and classified government information is completely different ballpark. These soldiers who have been reprimanded have already won’t find promotions and have lost two months of pay.
Yikes. I wish the best for these heroes; they should be a bit more careful with the media though.
