What happens to developers that leave huge game companies or when they are left jobless after layoffs? Well, some of them group up and create something new.
Kickstarter games are showing up left and right in the wake of the many layoffs that swept across both large and small studios(Rare, Harmonix, Irrational and so many more).
The Art Director of BioShock and veterans from various AAA studios that helped create BioShock, Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band came together to create The Molasses flood (studio name) and to bring to life a new game, The Flame in the Flood.
The Flame in the Flood (for PC/Mac and maybe more) is utilizing Unreal Engine 4 to bring to life a 'rogue-lite' game that incorporates traversing rivers (with a unique river creation system), foraging, crafting and surviving against the ever persistant elements and enemies (while outrunning the rain).
Sidenote: Permadeath is a thing in this game and that's awesome!
The Molasses Project is being very clear with what backers get (see the chart below), head over to the Kickstarter – there's a lot of info there as well a really nice look at the game art.
