The wait for Warcraft 4 continues, assuming it's actually in the company's plans. But as many wait patiently, a few gamers have taken matters into their own hands, creating what appears to be a Warcraft RTS built using the StarCraft 2 engine.
The mod, titled Warcraft: A New Dawn, uses the same real-time strategy elements as StarCraft 2, but offers entirely new units, buildings, and environments themed to the popular fantasy series. Best of all, the creators have released a new video showing off alpha footage of the impressive-looking game. The video shows The Blademaster slaying some NPCS.
"Please note that much of this mod is incomplete," the modders said, "and when we are done, we hope that people will forget they are playing in SC2 altogether!"
With Blizzard already focused on many other projects including StarCraft 2's expansions, Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, and the mysterious MMO Titan, it's unclear whether or not they'll have the time to dedicate to a new Warcraft game. Hopefully this mod will appease those waiting patiently. Check out the video below and let us know what you think.
In other news, former Diablo 3 game director Jay Wilson recently announced that he had stepped down from the Diablo team to work on something else within Blizzard. Could it be a Warcraft RTS?
