In an effort to bolster its push into multiplatform expansion, Wargaming has acquired Gas Powered Games. Wargaming, the leading free-to-play MMO developer and publisher, announced its agreement to acquire the Seattle-based developer today.
“Gas Powered Games’ heritage and development pedigree shows us just how valuable an addition Chris and his company will make to the Wargaming family,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. “Gas Powered Games has a long track record of providing incredibly engaging AAA gaming experiences and we can’t wait to start working with them.”
Gas Powered Games is best known for acclaimed franchises such as Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander, and Demigod. Chris Taylor, the CEO of Gas Powered Games had this to say of the acquisition:
“Wargaming growth in recent years has been tremendous, and we’re looking forward to joining one of the fastest growing gaming companies in the world. I’m sure our experience and expertise will help us contribute even more to Wargaming’s global success.”
Today's announcement comes not long after Wargaming revealed the purchase of Day 1 Studios. While it's unknown how Gas Powered Games will fit in to the company's plans, Day 1 Studios is already confirmed to be working "exclusively on the development of an unannounced console title." Prior to these moves, Wargaming was known as being a PC game developer/publisher, most recognized for World of Tanks.
