Wargaming teases new console game reveal at GDC 2013

Wargaming, the leading free-to-play developer and publisher with games like World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, has announced its plans for GDC 2013. On display at the Wargaming booth at the Game Developers Conference will be the latest updates to its signature titles, as well as a brand new title that will "help further reinforce the company's expansion onto new platforms."

The normally PC-exclusive publisher has made their intentions to expand on to consoles very clear in the past few months with the acquisitions of two studios: Day 1 Studios and Gas Powered Games. When Wargaming purchased Day 1 Studios in January, they confirmed the studio will focus "exclusively on the development on an unannounced console title." They never said what that title would be, but I'm going to venture to say we'll find out at GDC this month.

"The move into console game development is a huge step for Wargaming, as we begin to expand our presence into new platforms,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming, at the time of the studio's acquistion.“We are looking forward to sharing the fruits of our labor soon.”

We still don't know exactly how Gas Powered Games, known best for its Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander franchises, fits into Wargaming's plans.

Also on display at GDC will be Update 8.4 for World of Tanks, the latest version of the flight combat MMO World of Warplanes with its revamped controls, and the browser-based World of Tanks Generals. GDC takes place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from March 25 to March 29. What do you think the new console game will be?
