Wasteland was successfully revived from gaming's graveyard two years ago, with Wasteland 2 after 20 years of nothing. Then last year, Developer inExile released the Director's Cut of the game on consoles, and as a free upgrade for users who owned the game on PC. Unsurprisingly, with success comes sequels, and inExile has revealed that they are indeed working on Wasteland 3 (screenshot seen above).
They will also be going the route of crowdfunding once more, but instead of using the super popular Kickstarter platform (like they did last time), the company will be using the ultra-exclusive crowdfunding platform, Fig. Given that inExile's CEO, Brian Fargo is one of the members Fig's advisory board, it goes as no surprise that Wasteland 3 would change crowdfunding platforms.
The campaign launches on October 5th, with a target goal of $2.75 million, much higher than its target goal from its Kickstarter campaign of $900,000. Wasteland 2 ended up earning over $2.9 million by the end of its Kickstarter campaign, and given the success of the game, it's to be expected that Wasteland 3 will likely match and surpass its target goal.
As for the game itself, Wasteland 3 will take place in the frozen tundra of Colorado and will feature co-op multiplayer, a first for the series. Players will be able to work together through the game's major plot points, and even separate and go their own way (perhaps to handle two crises at once?).
