Watch Arrow on The CW app for Xbox 360 without cable subscription

Major Nelson announced through his blog that you can now watch shows like Arrow, Beauty & the Beast, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural through The CW app on Xbox 360. The app offers full episodes, previews and interviews, as well as offering next-day episodes for free with an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription.

It's huge that no cable subscription or membership is required. Usually, like with the ESPN app, you need a cable subscription in addition to the Xbox LIVE Gold subscription to get all of the content.

The CW app will also use Xbox SmartGlass to create interactive and integrated content to the shows. For example, this Friday, the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries — titled "the Originals" — can be viewed on The CW app. Viewers will be able to access exclusive SmartGlass content with their smartphone or tablet that other viewers can't. Some of the experience includes:

  • A map that follows the characters through town, revealing events throughout the town's history
  • Biographies of each character
  • Legends and lore of New Orleans and the world of The Vampire Diaries

The CW app joins a huge list of Xbox 360 applications. This announcement comes a day after a Pizza Hut app launched that lets you order pizza through your 360.

Xbox 360 users that download The CW app will be able to enter in a Facebook giveaway to win a custom Vampire Diaries or Supernatural console.
