[Watch] Assassin’s Creed Creator’s ‘Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey’ Ditches Episodes, Goes Open World

Two years ago, we heard about Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. From Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets and his studio Panache Digital Games, the game takes place 10 million years ago. The early story of mankind is revealed. After two years, we get a new trailer and details on the game.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person action-adventure survival game where players take the role of a member of early mankind. From the trailer, the game, even if pre-rendered, looks amazing. Also, they've revealed some changes to the title.

The game was initially planned to be episodic. That plan has been scrapped for a traditionally delivered experience. The game was initially going to play "hour to hour" according to Desilets, but is now more open and holds the player's hand a lot less, making the episodic nature less viable.

Desilets has declined to talk about the size of the game, but he has said that it is what he would call "big". He also revealed that it will be set primarily in proto-Africa.

Gameplay has been revealed as well, with resource management and survival elements. A more vague description was given for tribal conflict, which was thin on details. Desilets did mention that the game is less about a scripted story and more about creating your own, saying he wants players to create the story of their own ancestors, even if it's not exactly how science explains it.

An interesting note Desilets confirmed was the return of the same animator who created Ezio in Assassin's Creed II and the Prince in Prince of Persia. The Assassin's Creed series has had it's ups and downs, but the animation was never part of the problem, so this reveal is quite exciting.
