Earlier this month, Ubisoft shared its hopes of selling over six million copies of its new IP, Watch Dogs. If first day sales are any indication, they are well on their way of achieving that goal. Though no exact sales numbers were revealed, Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs sold through more copies in its 24 hours of availability than any previous title in the company's history.
“Watch Dogs is an amazing achievement and our teams should be proud that the creativity, innovation and long hours they invested in making this game are paying off," said Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot. "It’s great to see so many players enjoying the game, and it shows that Watch Dogs has cracked the code for developing a new blockbuster IP and a thoroughly new-gen experience.”
Though Watch Dogs also broke Ubisoft pre-order records, the game was constantly vicitm of a GAF-led witch hunt following its initial delay. From its first reveal to launch, it has been one of the most scrutinized games I've seen in a long time. Glad to see it working out for Ubisoft. Check out our review of Watch Dogs here.
