Ubisoft's record-breaking open-world action game, Watch Dogs, will arrive on Nintendo's Wii U on November 18 in North America, nearly six month's after the game's release on PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
In announcing the game's release for Wii U, Ubisoft also detailed how it will take advantage of the system's unique hardware. First, you'll be able to navigate the detailed, interactive map of Chicago directly on the Wii U GamePad. Additionally, Watch Dogs will also feature Off-TV Play, allowing you to enjoy the cyber-thriller directly on the GamePad, freeing up the television for other use.
Though Ubisoft Montreal handled primary development of Watch Dogs for all other platforms, the Wii U version's development is being led by Ubisoft Bucharest. It's unclear what that means in terms of quality, or if the Wii U version will have any noticeable downgrades. I'm assuming a few corners had to be cut to get it running properly on Nintendo's system, but who knows — maybe they'll surprise me.
The release of Watch Dogs on Wii U will also mark the last time Ubisoft plans to publish a mature game on Nintendo's system. Back in August, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot noted that Nintendo's audience has demonstrated lower interest in mature gameplay than on other platforms.
