Ghost Recon: Wildlands is promoting itself through a live action film, and while the idea seems like it's a bit out of left field, we've seen something like this happen before. Square Enix helped promote Final Fantasy XV through a YouTube series called Brotherhood and the CG film Kingsglaive, both of which proved to be important to understanding certain contexts within the game's narrative.
The War Within The Cartel most likely won't reach too deep on the scale of complexity, but it could potentially offer a fun side-story to get interested players a little more hyped for the game ahead of its release. The movie will be focusing on the conflicts from within, showcasing that although the player characters represent a threat from the outside, it's nothing compared to what goes down on the inside.
The film is expected to debut on Twitch on February 16th and will be available to watch on Amazon Prime immediately afterward. The movie will run about 30 minutes and is produced by Roberto Orci, who penned screenplays for major Hollywood blockbusters like Star Trek, Transformers, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands releases on March 7th, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
