[Watch] Here’s 29 minutes of NieR: Automata gameplay

One thing you can say about NieR: Automata is that it comes packed with tons of personality. And if this 29-minute gameplay showcase isn't enough to convince you of that, I don't know what is. The crew at PlayStation Underground sat down and hammered out an uncut play session of the upcoming open world Action RPG that shows a side of the game that feels like has been hiding from gamers in many of its previews.

For all it's heavy emphasis on chaotic action (which comes in droves and oodles), there's a considerable amount of RPG layering beneath the surface of it all. There are hubs to travel to where players can collect side quests to get added context to the goings on of the world and upgrade 2B with various chips, one of which, if you remove it will kill your character instantly, according to the game's director Yoko Taro. Trollololol.

Speaking of death, you can expect that to be a relatively active part of your experience with NieR: Automata. So much so that the developers have taken a page out of the Souls design book, and included a feature where players can return to the spot where they previously died and retrieve their gear. The idea is that since you play as an android, each time you die, your consciousness is transferred into a new body and you start anew to a degree.

NieR: Automata releases in full on March 7th, 2017 for PS4 and at some point, PC.
