The Pokemon Company released a very strange teaser video today and it's pretty unnerving. Pokemon, a game typically for all ages, seems to be delving into the creepy subject of an alien invasion. The video and their website both note July 19 as a reveal date for whatever this strange video is about.
Polygon was nice enough to translate the text in this video, which is titled "Pokemon Mystery File: A World of Pokemon You Don't Know." The strange thing is, the video contains footage and engines of previous games, both Pokemon Sun and Moon and Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Usually, when Pokemon upgrades to a new engine, they stick with it, so what's going on here?
The whole video has very… creepy vibe to it. The music is chilling and there seem to be alien-Pokemon/human hybrids. the translation continues, "Is this a time slip? Is it manipulating time? It came from the moon? Is it a space virus? Is this an encounter with aliens? The battle with the alien invader has begun!"
"Is this the underside of this world? Is this a puzzle of ancient relics? Is this an attack from a parallel universe? Is it possessing humans?"
Is it possessing humans? This is getting dark, Pokemon Company. The video closes with Unown, the letter Pokemon, spelling out, "Is something happening?"
Consider us very intrigued as to what this all means. The video was posted by Pokemon Company Japan, but hopefully whatever is revealed on July 19 isn't Japanese exclusive. We'll have more on this story as it's revealed.
