As Rare continues its development on Sea of Thieves, the developers have given us yet another behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming open world pirate multiplayer game. This time the discussion surrounded the design of the game's massive world both regarding its visuals and how the world can function from a strategic point of view.
As gamers continue to get small tastes of the game via the Closed Alpha, Rare wants you to know that what you are playing right now is the mere tip of the proverbial iceberg. There's a lot more to the game's world that you aren't seeing just yet, and this is a playground who visual style is as varied in its design as it is deep in its offering of player tactics. As the developers describe, Sea of Thieves is so vast that it's important to have a player in the crow's nest at all times to keep an eye on the horizon, as getting a beat on an enemy ship that hasn't seen you yet is paramount to your success.
Once you've got an enemy in your sights, you have the option to try and loop around outside of their vision to gain a tactical edge, or if you simply wish to avoid combat altogether. Sometimes it is advantageous to avoid conflict, as Rare hints that some crews may be a bit more advanced than yours, so fighting them may not be the smartest thing in the world. But you still have the freedom to decide that for yourself.
Sea of Thieves does not currently have a release date, but it is expected to launch on Xbox One and Windows 10 sometime this year.
