[Watch] Side-scrolling Action-RPG The Tenth Line Coming to PS4

The Tenth Line is one part platformer, one part RPG that first arrived on PC. It takes much inspiration from the early PlayStation RPGs of the late 90's, which makes its release on PlayStation 4 very fitting.

The game features a classic late-90's vibe in both story, music and looks, and it even adds something new to the standard formula. Outside of battle, the game plays like a platformer, jumping, collecting, using various skills to traverse the world.

In battle, the game retains a side view, but instead of just picking your attack and waiting, the game features an active timing element. Choose a move for each character, then carry them all out in succession with skill-based button prompts similar to games like Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. Enemy turns can also be defended and dodged against with the right player skill. Furthermore, successfully performing these maneuvers grants momentum, which can create even more skill points to use on the next turn.

From the PlayStation blog post, the developer notes:

"The Tenth Line is a challenging and refreshing take on RPGs, twisting genre conventions in numerous ways that are sure to appeal to the RPG fan who craves something new and different, including post-game content, a New Game Plus option, and optional superbosses, just like in the good old days."

There's even an option to play the game more like a traditional RPG if timing in RPG battles isn't your thing.

The roster of characters seems similar to the recently reviewed Shiness. Anthropomorphic characters and a wide arrange of personalities, really singing a familiar tune of traditional RPGs with a unique blend of characters. It takes place in a fantasy world where all these races struggle to co-exist. The main character is the Princess of Easania being chased by a mysterious cult.

The Tenth Line is coming to PlayStation 4 on June 27 on the PlayStation Store for $12.99.
