Star Wars: Battlefront 2's release is fast approaching, and it appears EA has made a deal with the YouTube channel, BattlefrontUpdates to release a series of exclusive videos detailing various aspects of the game from microtransactions to character customization as well as progression. The key thing to take away from all of the videos is that progression is done by unlocking crates, not unlike those in Overwatch.
Crates will contain things like Credits, Star Cards, and crafting elements which can be used in different ways to unlock stuff within the game. Where microtransactions come in is if you decide that you want to speed up the rate of unlocks, you can do so by using real-world money to purchase in-game credits.
Here are the videos:
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 got a pretty epic showing during E3 2017 culminating in a 40-player multiplayer match showing off one of the new maps, and the inclusion of Prequel and Sequel Trilogy content. The game is doing away with the Season Pass, but it looks like that revenue will be made up via microtransactions.
Regardless of how you feel about microtransactions, it's hard to argue that the inclusion of a single-player campaign as well as having "three times the content" is nothing but a win.
