What is EA’s Largest Game Launch in History? Yup, Battlefield 3.

5 billion copies of Battlefield 3 sold in the first week alone.  This tops any previous game in which EA has released.  On this topic, EA’s EVP Patrick Soderlund had to say, “From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long — we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3.  It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand.”

Along with these numbers, EA released stats for the first week of play: 73 million savior kills, 48 million revives, and destroyed 67 million vehicles.   As of now, the ‘Battlefield’ franchise has sold over 50 million copies since Battlefield 1942 in 2002.  These early high numbers speak highly of EA’s success with this franchise and Battlefield 3 in specific.
