As you're probably aware, the embargo for Respawn Entertainment's highly anticipated shooter Titanfall has lifted today and reviews are beginning to pour in. So far, it seems like everyone is really liking it. We are too, but we aren't quite ready to publish our review.
First off, being located on the East coast means we often get games close, or sometimes on, the embargo date. That's been the case with Titanfall, but rest assured, reviewer Lance Liebl is going full-mech-ahead with the game as I write this so it shouldn't be too much longer.
It's worth pointing out that the delay in the game's arrival is somewhat of a blessing for us, especially from a reader standpoint. Titanfall emphasizes online play, and with a heavy dependency on cloud technology it's safer to wait until the game is in the hands of the general masses before rushing to a review. As we learned with rocky launches of SimCity and Battlefield 4 (which just so happen to be two other EA-published titles), the online status of a game's servers can change drastically from pre- to post-release. We're going to wait until Titanfall is officially available to everyone so that we can really test the systems put in place.
