Why EA SPORTS 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil isn’t coming to Xbox One or PS4

Yesterday, Electronic Arts revealed EA SPORTS 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil,  a new soccer game designed to replicate the excitement of the World Cup. However, it's only coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But why?

Apparently, there just isn't a large enough crowed on the next-gen systems to warrant a release. Answering fans, the official EA Sports FIFA twitter explained that they are working to make the best game for the "largest audience," which is still on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Explaining the situation further, producer Matthew Prior told GameSpot that the company expects the "vast majority" of fans to be playing on the now-older systems like the Xbox 360 and PS3. Emerging markets like host nation Brazil, the site notes, had "prohibitively low next-gen adoption rates."

Don't worry, though. Xbox One and PS4 owners will get special World Cup content on their version of FIFA 14, though no details were revealed.

EA Sports 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is due out on April 15, 2014.
