Despite the release of the Wii U earlier this month, Nintendo isn't content with letting the original Wii simply die off. In fact, a new report claims that Nintendo may be planning to release a redesigned Wii console as early as next month.
Nintendo World Report claims to have received an internal release schedule from an unnamed major retailer which details the supposed release of the Wii Mini. According to the schedule, the Wii Mini is set to launch on December 7, 2012. The modified console will be bundled with a Wii sensor bar, Nunchuk, and Wii Remote Plus.
Nintendo hasn't commented on the rumor, but if true, this would mark the second redesign for Nintendo's revolutionary console. The first came last year and made the console slightly smaller, removing the GameCube controller ports.
But is it too late for the Wii? The Wii U released on November 18 and has been very popular among gamers so far. Is it smart for Nintendo to release a new Wii console at the same time as the Wii U's launch or does Nintendo risk fracturing its market?
