Wii U release date, price supposedly being announced this fall

Nintendo will be announcing the official release date and price for their upcoming Wii U console at a press conference set for fall 2012. They will also be revealing new games for 2013.

The announcement comes from a "reliable investor" who attended a Nintendo Stockholders meeting where Nintendo allegedly discussed plans to announce a price and release date for the Wii U later this year.

“Nintendo Stockholders Meeting. Discussion involved the announcements of Wii U software as well as a September sale date and price announcement,” the tweet reads (translation via Gematsu). “Accordingly, there were discussions not just about launch titles, but announcements for next year and hereafter. Including software, seems we’ll be waiting for September.”

A follow-up tweet, suggested an error in the original post, stating a more general window for Nintendo's announcement. The statement clarified that it may not exactly be September, but fall when we hear about the system's date and price.

Nintendo has managed to keep both the release date and price of the Wii U a well-kept secret. Outside of a general "holiday 2012" launch window, Nintendo has been very secretive about the exact date.

Nintendo has been equally secretive about the price of the Wii U, stating only that it will be priced "reasonably". We don't know exactly what that means, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has reassured consumers and investors that they won't make the same pricing mistake with the Wii U as they did with the 3DS. That mistake being an overpriced system. It seems that many analysts feel comfortable with a Wii U price around the $300 point.
