We previously reported that publisher and developer Ubisoft was working on a "revolutionary" first-person shooter for the hardcore gamer to launch on the Wii U. Today we learn a bit about this future FPS thanks to screenshots, trailers, and a full website. Having checked this game out, I have to say I'm really digging the concept.
Titled Killer Freaks from Outer Space, this FPS from the French publisher looks to pack a ton of cheesiness and over-the-top antics in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi universe. Not much is known about the gameplay, but I'm guessing it's going to offer some fun shooting action, coupled with interestingly comical themes. Oh, and there should be plenty of blood to go around for those of you who are into that sort of thing.
After checking out the game's trailers, I found that Ubisoft seems to be going for a quirky style. No doubt the game will be violent (it's an FPS), but the devs seem to want to make something a little more lighthearted. In all honesty, Killer Freaks from Outer Space sounds like an indie film that would come out on SyFy, and you can bet I'd be checking it out. The "killer freaks" in the game look a lot like mutated Rabbids. That's reason enough for me.
It takes a lot for me to play an FPS. I won't touch a military-themed shooter, and in order for me to really get into the genre, I need to see some intriguing ideas in terms of story, art style, and gameplay mechanics (or it has to be the awesome Goldeneye 007). Killer Freaks from Outer Space looks like the type of shooter that doesn't take itself too seriously and is all about being fun, which is the main reason we all play video games, right?
What do you think of the game based on the trailers and screenshots on the official site?
