Wonderful 101 For Nintendo Switch Teased

Today, a new image of The Wonderful 101 was hinted at on Twitter. Developer Platinum Games (Nier: Automata, Bayonetta) Tweeted the image seen below, which has characters wearing masks and W101 symbols on their clothes holding Joy-Con in their hands. To really drive it home, the other side of the image characters straight from the game's art style and design.

The Wonderful 101 originally launched on the Wii U in 2013. Launching at a time when the Wii U was particularly hurting for sales (as opposed to its entire life span of such), The Wonderful 101 did not get the praise it deserved for its creativity and crazy gameplay mechanics.

Last month, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime even talked about re-releasing Wii U hits on Switch as a chance for those who didn't get a Wii U to experience the games they were particularly fond of.

"Given the install base of Wii U, there was some fantastic content that consumers did not get to play. So that creates certainly a business opportunity. On the other hand, one of the things that we've discussed internally is, there really needs to be an additional element to that game to make it fresh, and to further compel the consumer to buy in.

I think the best example of that is Pokken Tournament Deluxe. Additional fighters, that gives the fan a reason to buy into it. Same is true with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, providing a mode that the consumers wanted in terms of a better battle mode, that was then included in that game. And so, I think the way we will continue to evaluate this is: yes, do we have opportunities with great games that maybe were not played as broadly on the Wii U, but then what's the plus alpha that's going to make it really compelling for the consumer?"

In this monolog, he didn't mention any new games, but he did say, "I can tell you there's more to be announced."

Obviously, it seems The Wonderful 101 was among these titles.
