World Cyber Games Semi-Finals Kick Off

Competition to be Among Nation’s
Top Gamers Intensifies

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – July 2, 2003
— The United Cyber Games Association (UCGA) today announced that the U.S.
semi-final rounds of the third annual Samsung World Cyber Games (WCG) will kick
off this weekend, July 6th. The winners of this next heat will advance to the
U.S. Finals, which will take place in Los Angeles at the Ultimate Gamers Expo,
August 15-17.

The competition’s qualifying rounds
finished this past weekend, with Half-Life: Counter-Strike proving to be the
most popular of the six games, claiming 48% of the total turnout. California
boasted the best attendance, with CompUSA locations in Redondo Beach and San
Jose bringing in the most gamers. The semi-final rounds will take place each
weekend throughout the month of July at the same 20 CompUSA locations that
hosted the recent qualifiers.

The World Cyber Games is the world’s
largest e-sports competition with more than 700 competitors from 50 countries
around the world participating. Team USA, made up of the country’s top players
from the U.S. Finals, will move onto the WCG 2003 Grand Final in Seoul, Korea in
October, where they will compete for a cash prize pool of $350,000.
